Ryan Kennedy

Age: 36

Occupation: BP Operator

Which class time do you usually attend? 4:30 or 5 and some Saturdays.

How long have you been CrossFitting? Around 2 years

How did you find CrossFit i1uvit? I was shopping for a new gym and came to an i1uvit throwdown as a spectator to support some friends. I was impressed with gym and the family. I was in the process of test driving gyms, I tried a couple and decided to sign up for a month at i1uvit and now I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

What is your athletic/fitness background (If applicable)? Nothing collegiate but I played a lot of team sports as a kid until I found snowboarding at 12 years old.

Favorite WOD: EMOM’s

Favorite lift or movement: Squats

Least favorite WOD: See below.

Least favorite movement: Running or Rowing (unless it’s a sprint)

Favorite life quote: "You just gotta keep LIVIN man, L – I – V – I – N"  ~ Wooderson

Favorite “guilty pleasure” food: Beer or Vodka (that counts as a food right?)

How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness? It has literally changed everything. I’m more functionally fit than I’ve ever been and that transfers into everything I do. My energy level is higher, I have less chronic pain (thank you snowboarding) and when I do activities outside of the gym I especially notice the strength and cardio change.

Who or what motivates/inspires you to keep coming back?  For me it’s all about having fun. Crossfit isn’t a chore to me. It’s a chance to have fun, push myself and hang out with great people.

What is your proudest CrossFit achievement? I don’t think I have one defining moment but every workout is a challenge and I just try to find a rhythm, try to improve on every rep and change my thoughts from can’t and won’t to can and will. If I can do that, I’m proud.

Name one goal/personal achievement you would like to achieve through CrossFit: I just want to have visible abs when I’m 40.

Hobbies/Interests outside of CrossFit:  Hiking, Backpacking, Snowboarding

Any advice for new members?  Focus on your form and doing the movements correctly. The day will come when you can increase to heavy weight but don’t be in a hurry to get there.

Any additional thoughts/shout-outs/comments?  Shout out to all the coaches and members for making it a fun, inclusive and competitive environment and last but not least to Matt and Kaylee for having that vision and driving this atmosphere.
