Which class time do you usually attend? 530/630 PM
How long have you been CrossFitting? 8 months
How did you find CrossFit i1uvit? I worked with Kaylee at WWU and started attending her fitness class there. Soon after Jey and I began to attend Saturday Classes.
What is your athletic/fitness background (if applicable): I swam competitively for 10 years and played water polo in undergrad and graduate school.
Favorite WOD: "DT" and partner barbell workouts
Favorite lift or movement: Clean & Jerk
Least favorite WOD. I cried through the last two rounds of 18.2 or 10 EMOM- 2 heavy squat cleans followed by 4 burpees.
Least favorite lift or movement: Wall Balls
Favorite quote: “If you try hard enough you can rationalize anything” – Gary Harvey (my dad)
Favorite “guilty pleasure” food: Pizza is bae.
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, and/or level of fitness? I grew up swimming and playing water polo. This doesn’t translate to land things at all. I grew up thinking there was no hope for me with “land activities”. It has been a slow process but I am now less intimidated to try new movements and activities. It is wild that I actually look forward to working out again.
Who or what motivates/inspires you to keep coming back? I am motivated to continue to come back because of the community. I have been looking for a “team” since I stopped playing sports and the i1uvit community is amazing. I have found my team. It is so inspiring to show up and work hard with everyone on a daily basis and see the improvements everyone makes. I am so stoked so the improvements that I can see in myself from month to month.
What is your proudest CrossFit achievement? I almost started crying when I did a walking DB lunges. I couldn’t do that a year ago.
Name one goal you are working for and would like to achieve through CrossFit? I want to do a strict pull-up, kick up into a handstand, and run a 10-minute mile by my 30th birthday.
Hobbies/Interests outside of CrossFit? I love gardening, reading, spending time with Jey, perusing breweries, and being in the sunshine
Any advice for new members? Keep coming back. Even when it hurts, even when you are tired, even when you just want to take a day off. Listen to your body, but fight the urge to take it easy. Don’t get discouraged by what you don’t know how to do yet. Mastering new skills is the fun of it.
Any additional thoughts/shout-outs/comments: HUGE shout out to my husband. He is so supportive and really doesn’t let me crap out when I would rather watch Netflix and hibernate than go to class. His consistent hard work and dedication to improving all of his skills are such an inspiration. The biggest thank you to all of the i1uvit coaches. I am such a fish out of water and y’all are so patient, and give such great feedback. Thanks for pushing me. You are the real MVP’s and I appreciate you.
