How long have you been CrossFitting? 9 months
How did you find CrossFit i1uvit? I used to go to a CrossFit gym in Bellingham, but I didn't love their training or coaching methods so I stopped going. I really wanted to find a gym that was the right fit for me, but wasn't really sure where to go. I had met Ari, Amy & Kiersten this last last summer, and they told me they went to CrossFit i1uvit, so I signed up for their intro camp and it was the best decision I've made in a long time!
What is your athletic/fitness background (if applicable): I played multiple sports up to Junior year HS, and then got pretty lazy once I was in college. I had an on/off relationship with the gym, went hiking during the summer, & attempted winter sports but that's about it.
Favorite WOD: AMRAPs (under 15 min) or Gymnastics Skill Work
Favorite lift or movement: Cleans, Deadlifts, Box Jumps
Least favorite WOD: Any long running WOD, or the one we recently did of 150 WB for time, & every time you broke had 15 KB swings
Least favorite lift or movement: Assault bike! or Squat Snatches
Favorite quote: "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right."
Favorite "guilty pleasure" food: Mac & Cheese! Maple doughnuts, Oreos
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, and/or level of fitness? I really don't even know where to begin! CrossFit has changed my life for the better in so many ways. I have a back injury from being a former dental assistant, so I need to be active to help strengthen my back (and body overall). I hated going to a normal gym, it was so unmotivating and I would make every excuse not to go. After I was injured, I was in a slump. I was so unhappy and in pain all the time. Chiropractic & Physical Therapy 2-3x a week didn't help and I literally thought I was going to be in pain for the rest of my life (at 25). Those were the worst 2 years of my life. After my first month of CrossFit, I started feeling a lot better and by the end of the 3rd month, it was like my injury didn't exist. Yes, sometimes I still feel it after really hard workouts, but overall it's at like 95% and I am so much happier! CrossFit challenges me to be better in fitness, and with life in general. I've seen noticeable differences in not just my body, but my energy and health as well! I find myself eating & moving better, taking on more challenges, and wanting to be the best version of myself. It isn't just a workout, it's a lifestyle.
Who or what motivates/inspires you to keep coming back? The coaches and the amazing community of members that they've created. Everyone there inspires me in some way to work harder and keep coming back. I love that i'm always learning, improving in some way or another and overall just happier.
What is your proudest CrossFit achievement? I was super excited when I got my first T2B, also RX'ing two of the WODs in my first CrossFit Open.
Name one goal you are working for and would like to achieve through CrossFit? I have a lot of personal CF goals, but my main goal for now is to keep working on a stronger kip and master butterfly pull ups.
Hobbies/Interests outside of CrossFit? I'm a foodie; I love to cook, and go to food & wine tasting events, hiking & exploring the PNW, reading, summer bonfires & BBQs, line dancing, girls nights, dates with my Husband and spending time with Family.
Any advice for new members? Trust the process and be patient! Consistently show up and give 100%. Not everything is going to click all at once and that's okay! The process seems slow, but months from now you can look back and see how far you've progressed. Don't be afraid of asking for help, all of the coaches are really knowledgeable and happy to set aside extra time for you.
Any additional thoughts/shout-outs/comments: Matt, Kaylee, and all of the coaches, thank you for creating such a fun and inspiring community for all of us to be a part of! I am so thankful for all the time, motivation and patience you put in helping each one of us everyday.
