Where are you from? I grew up in Bellingham, went to college in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and now live here in Lynden!
Any Occupation (in addition to coaching at i1uvit): Full time mommin’!
Where did you go to school? What did you study? I went to New Mexico State University, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. I went down to swim in the University Swim Team, and studied Community Health and Biology.
What coaching credentials do you have? CrossFit Level 1
How long have you been CrossFitting? I started in 2014.
What is your athletic/fitness background? I swam competitively starting in 7th grade and was lucky enough to be on my University swim team. After that I did various fitness classes before finding CrossFit i1uvit!
Favorite WOD: I love when there are long AMRAPS or chippers programmed.
Favorite lift or movement: It changes often, but right now it has been fun to get strength back after a season of raising young babies. I have been enjoying squatting and deadlifting!
Least favorite WOD: Ones like Isabel and Grace are quick and brutal.
Least favorite lift or movement: Handstand walking and strict handstand push ups.
Favorite food: Chocolate!
Favorite quote: “I would rather be ashes than dust!
I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot.
I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet.
The function of man is to live, not to exist.
I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them.
I shall use my time.”
― Jack London
How has CrossFit changed your life/lifestyle/level of fitness? I have been Crossfitting through times in my life when I had time and access to be really competitive. I have also done CrossFit through all of my pregnancies and postpartum seasons. I train far less now than I was once able to, but am finding that I have the capacity to get better.
I find that having a community makes the push to be the best version of yourself so infectious and fun. Gym friends become forever friends because your lifestyles align.
Who or what motivates/inspires you? I am motivated by the moms in the gym. Making it happen, whether they have to pack snacks, games, or screens. Raising a generation of kids who also want to be strong and appreciate their mom for being strong and active. It is not easy, and I see your effort and it inspires me!
What is your proudest CrossFit achievement(s)? I felt a lot of joy hitting big goals from the past- squat snatching 150, split jerking 200, and squatting 250 which all happened before having kids. But I think I am MOST proud of maintaining fitness, strength, and ability through 6 years of constant pregnancy, nursing, and postpartum.
Name one goal you are working to achieve through CrossFit: I want to become a good coach! I want to work on building mental toughness in the middle of a hard workout.
Hobbies/Interests outside of CrossFit: I love playing with my kids- crafting with them and having adventures as a family. I like to host gatherings with friends and family. I love to use our popup camper and get outside.
Any advice for new members? We have such a wonderful environment here, I encourage finding friendships that can extend out of the gym. I love my friends that I have made here!
