Age: 43
Occupation: Teacher/Berry Grower
Which class time do you usually attend? 6am
How long have you been CrossFitting? 4 years.
How did you find CrossFit i1uvit? Internet
What is your athletic/fitness background (if applicable): Played all sports in high school. Won two state championships football and basketball-(if you’d like to see my rings sometime I can show you.) Glory Days.
Favorite WOD: Any WOD that is more body weight and lengthy. Also any of the hero WOD’s which are insanely hard. I like the way the coaches take time to tell us about who we are trying to honor-very cool.
Favorite lift or movement: Thruster or pull-ups
Least favorite WOD: I can’t think of one. They are all hard but, I like that.
Least favorite lift or movement: I’m not the strongest in a lot of the lifts but I like them all.
Favorite quote: There’s too many to pick one but if I had to pick one for CF it would be Vince Lombardi- “The good Lord gave you a body that can stand most anything. It’s your mind you have to convince.”
Favorite “guilty pleasure” food: Pizza and margaritas
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, and/or level of fitness? I try to go to class 4 times a week and workout 1 time on the weekend at home. It’s an appointment I make for myself to get 1 hour of exercise in a day. It’s kind of the only hobby I got because I don’t have a lot of spare time these days. I feel like my endurance and strength have improved a lot since starting. I’m an old dad with young kids, so hopefully it helps me keep up.
Who or what motivates/inspires you to keep coming back? I love the atmosphere we have at the gym. We have a great time visiting and getting to know each other and I think I look forward to that as much as the workouts. Everyone is so supportive to one another and that is really cool.
What is your proudest CrossFit achievement? When I got my first muscle up in my garage before I started. I remember failing about 1000 times and when I got it, I told myself I really didn’t do it - and then I did it again.
Name one goal you are working for and would like to achieve through CrossFit? Just keep getting stronger and stay injury free.
Hobbies/Interests outside of CrossFit? Love going to Husky football games and tailgates with the family.
Any advice for new members? I just remember when I started my hands were getting torn and I was sore on a whole new level. My feet would start cramping during box jumps and I was thinking holy sh*t even my feet are building muscles! But overtime my flexibility got better and I just felt better and better. So, give it time and don’t quit. Also, listen to your coaches. It’s better to go light and do it right, than heavy and get hurt.
Any additional thoughts/shout-outs/comments: Thank you to Matt & Kaylee for creating this awesome place. As a teacher I know the time it takes to prepare and plan a lesson. The dedication and hard work you put it in to planning the workouts and teaching us the exercises is second to none. Thank you to all the coaches that have taught me so much and are people that inspire me to do better. Shout out to the over-caffeinated morning crew, who roll out of bed at 5am to do some of the hardest workouts known to man, and smile while doing it.
